Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program (DDETFP)
The Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program (DDETFP) was established by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) in 1991, reauthorized in 1998 by the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), and reauthorized in 2005 by the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).
The Federal Highway Administration Universities and Grants Programs (U&GP) is directly responsible for the administration of the DDETFP. This fellowship program encompasses all modes of transportation and exposes students to academic experiences and career opportunities in the transportation industry. Additionally, the fellowship program advances the transportation workforce by attracting the brightest minds to the field through education, research, and workforce development.
The Dwight David Eisenhower Fellowships are awarded annually in the amount up to $10,000.00 to students who have expressed an interest in pursuing a career in the transportation. The fellowship program encompasses all areas of transportation, including and not limited to the following Transportation-related Academic Disciplines:

*Other transportation-related disciplines may be approved by the U&GP program manager on a case-by-case basis.
The DDETFP at South Carolina State University is intended for rising Juniors and Seniors pursuing transportation-related undergraduate degrees who plan to enter the transportation profession upon completing their higher education.
The U&GP will award the Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowships on the basis of class standing; GPA; university transcripts; transportation work experience, if any, including employer’s endorsement; letters of recommendations (a minimum of three [3]) regarding the applicant’s qualifications, and essay.
Students selected to participate in this program are required to produce a major transportation-related research project and attend the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting held annually in Washington, D.C.
Applications for this program are announced annually during the Spring Semester.
